Azimut Yachts is an Italian shipbuilding company established in 1969.
Paolo Vitelli founded Azimut Srl and began chartering sailing boats.
In 1970, prestigious yachting brands appointed the company to distribute their boats in Italy. After that, in 1979, Azimut expanded its operations and began to design new yachts.
In a joint venture with Amerglass, they built the AZ 43’ Bali, a mass-produced fibreglass boat, which was an immediate success.
The company then expanded its range by focusing on the lower end of the market, with the AZ 32’ Targa launch in 1977, the Ford T of the boating world, and the high-end Azimut 105’ Failaka in 1982.
In 1985, Azimut acquired Benetti Yachts, an Italian brand that had been building yachts since 1873 and designs a range of megayachts.
Milestones
From the late nineties onwards, Azimut became the foremost builder of yachts and megayachts.
Azimut’s leadership position was confirmed afterwards due to numerous business successes and an investment policy.
